the hotel emailed or faxed confirmation and visa support/issued either by the hotel or a visa company/ which you must provide at the Russian Consulate/Embassy to obtain the visa

- You can get your visa online from an online visa company.
- You can easily reserve a hotel yourself. Be sure to get the reservation number and confirmation faxed or emailed to you.
- Using your home tour operator for visa, tickets and hotel
reservation will make your life easier by being under the same jurisdiction (just in case any problems arise during your trip).

VOLGOGRAD TODAY

Volgograd today is a modern city with a population of about 1 million people. The Volga-Don Canal makes the city a big river port connecting five seas: the Caspian, Baltic , White, Black and the Sea of Azov .
It remains a very long and narrow city of about 80 km
running along the Volga River.
The territory of the Volgograd administrative region/oblast/ is almost as big as France. The climate is continental which makes the city hot in summer and rather cold in winter.

The city centre is a concentration of theatres, museums, hotels , shopping centres, and colleges. Volgograd is a big industrial and traffic centre with its own train stations and airport.

The city was founded in 1589 as a Cossack fortress on the Tsaritsa river (a tributary joining the Volga in the city centre
) .  In 1925 the city was renamed Stalingrad after Joseph Stalin. The city became known worldwide because of the battle of 1942/43 . Here, with the enormous efforts of the Red Army, fascist troops were finally forced to retreat and their road back to Berlin started.

The story of Stalingrad is very controversial and has been interpreted in many ways for political or commercial reasons.
